Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act of 2011
The House Intelligence Committee recently reported out H.R. 3523, introduced by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), which would allow federal agencies dealing with cybersecurity, such as the National Security Agency, to share certain data with private firms to protect those firms’ networks. The bill would also exempt from liability any company which shared data, such as Internet protocol addresses, with federal agencies in an effort to investigate or fight hackers. During the committee markup, additional privacy protections were put in place to restrict the government’s use of shared information and to require an annual report on any uses of such information for purposes other than cybersecurity.
