Schools often find themselves doing background checks through the statewide systems that are available. Not always do these systems turn up charges. It is important to do a thorough background check on prospective employees to verify that they in fact are reporting their Social Security Number. Doing a simple Social Security Trace will give other areas that they have lived, other names they have gone by, and will reveal gaps in residency that will alert True Hire staff of possible time frames they have been incarcerated. Doing a more in depth background check is not that much more costly and saves money in the long run by turning up additional information that may not be readily available at the state level. You may want to do a National Criminal Search to get the wider scope, however it is very smart to then back it up with a county search as well to make sure you are getting all of the most up to date information.
