True Hire Wins Weatherhead 100 Award, Named One of the Fastest-Growing Companies in Northeast Ohio

Uniontown, Ohio—True Hire, a full-service background screening company based in northeast Ohio, was recently selected as one of the fastest-growing companies in the region, winning the Weatherhead 100 award for the fourth time since 2016, ranking 61 in the Weatherhead 100 category.

Established in 1988 to celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship, the Weatherhead 100 is an annual award given by the Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of Management to Northeast Ohio’s exceptional entrepreneurs who lead the way to economic success in the region. It honors growing companies that exhibit success in leadership.

“We’re really excited to be listed again as a Weatherhead 100 winner,” said True Hire CEO Stephanie Froelich. “We’ve won several years in the past, so we’re very excited to be selected yet again as one of the fastest growing companies in northeast Ohio, especially with the pandemic over the past nearly two years.”

The awards are given for three categories: Upstart, Weatherhead 100 and Centurion. The Weatherhead 100 category, which includes True Hire, recognizes companies whose net sales were at least $100,000 in year one of five years required for application and at least $1 million in year five. Winning companies must have employed a minimum of 16 people full time in the last year.

The team at True Hire celebrated the company’s impressive win with a viewing party to watch the virtual award ceremony held on December 9, at which point it was revealed that True Hire ranked 61 in the Weatherhead 100 category. At the viewing party, the entire True Hire team wore company t-shirts to showcase their True Hire pride and they also enjoyed iconic local products provided by Cleveland in a Box. At the conclusion of the ceremony, all Weatherhead winners appeared on camera simultaneously for a celebratory toast.

Prior to its recent award-winning growth, True Hire was heavily negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as was the entire background screening industry. Many of True Hire’s clients that conduct high volumes of background checks, like within the restaurant industry, were either completely shut down for a period of time or holding off on hiring and instead operating with less staff. As a result, True Hire had to pivot their marketing efforts to appeal to industries that were less negatively impacted by COVID-19.

“Once COVID hit our industry, it was very difficult on the hiring side,” explained Froelich. “We do background checks for lots of restaurants, hospitals, and other businesses that were some of the most affected industries across the country in regard to background checks, so we pivoted our marketing toward some other industries that we knew were growing and hiring once the COVID regulations started to lift. Then our sales bumped up and we were able to recover to above where we were pre-COVID, so that was pretty exciting.”

True Hire is a full-service background screening company with more than 26 years of experience providing high-quality background checks, comprehensive drug testing programs, exit interviews and a wide range of HR services.
